Modestly Me | Brenda

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes." (1 Peter 3:3)

Hey there! Meet Brenda! A 17 year old high school senior. Going to church & praising God are at the top of her list of things she loves to do. When she's not at church, you can catch her hanging out with friends and her boyfriend, singing songs, reading, or doing photography. Here's Brenda's take on Modesty:

Why do you love to dress modestly?

I love dressing modestly because it is a way of showing that I respect myself and it's also my way of honoring God. It says in 1 Peter 3:4 ||You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.|| And dressing modestly is my way of showing my gentle and quite spirit.

Where's your favorite place to shop?
I love going to Ross, Forever 21, TJ Maxx, JC Penny, Marshall's, and Burlington Coat Factory. I'm not really picky to where I shop, but these are the places I usually go to.

Do you find it tough to find modest clothing when everything is so short in the stores?
Do I find it tough to shop, yes I do. It is very difficult to find modest clothing. Everything is either too short, too tight, or too revealing. But when I find something that isn't too short, tight, or revealing, I take it! Haha.

What is your favorite thing to wear & why?
My favorite thing to wear? I would say dresses because they can either be causal or dressy, and it's a lot easier to work with them. Skirts as well. I just love dress shopping.

When it comes to fashion, who inspires you the most?
When it comes to fashion I wouldn't say anyone really inspires me. I just wear what I like and what I think looks best.

Bonus question! What would you tell girls that struggle with body image?
I struggled myself a lot when it came to my body image. Growing up, I was told a lot of hurtful and mean things I should not have been told as a child. I would tell the girls that you have a King who loves you! You are His princess and you were made in His image. So, to Him you are perfect doesn't matter your flaws. To Him you are beautiful in every aspect. ||You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way.|| (Song of Songs 4:7)
I know what it feels like to struggle in that area in your life and it sucks it truly does, but when you focus your life on God, He makes you realize you have been beautiful all along

Modestly Me | Marisol

"I think modesty is one of the best ways to let God's light shine through you..."

Meet Marisol. A 17 year old girl who loves the Lord & is passionate about living for Him. I've had the pleasure of meeting Marisol over social media, only to find out that she lives near my hometown! She is the first feature for Modestly Me! So with that said, here's Marisol's take on modesty...

Why do you think dressing modestly is important?
Dressing modestly is one of the most important things. Our body is a temple, and we shouldn't show off  "what God gave us", as some people would say. I am one of those that people call "crazy for Jesus" because I always try to follow His word. In Timothy 2:9 it says, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves with modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly arrray;"
You can't dress "modestly" in extremely short shorts and a low cut tank top. If you're trying to show God's light through you, people should know the difference between you and worldly people by the way you dress.

What is your favorite thing to wear? Why?
I love to wear skirts and dresses. I wear just skirts and dresses because I want to please God by being modest. I also love them because I've been wearing them since I was a little girl. That's how my mother raised me, and I wouldn't change that for the world. She always taught me that what you wear shows people that you are different, and it lets God's light shine through you for the whole world to see.

What's something you would say to inspire girls to dress in a respectable way?
I would like to tell girls that you can dress modest and still look beautiful. You are a temple where God comes and dwells. It doesn't matter what people say about the way you dress. You shouldn't please them, but please GOD! And you are a precious diamond in His eyes. Don't let the fashion of today's world change that!

Modestly Me.

Dresses, skirts, jeans, and sometimes shorts. That's what you can catch me in. I'm a girly girl. I love dresses & skirts. Now-a-days, skirts, dresses, and shorts are way too short. I mean so short that if you bend over, the whole world will see your lady parts. Not cute nor classy. I'm a girl of class. I respect myself by the way that I dress. I realize that my body is beautiful, but that doesn't mean that I go showing it of to everyone. I am a Daughter of the King. I am special.

With that being said, I want other girls to realize that they are the same. There are too many that disrespect themselves by wearing revealing clothes. Girls need to know that it is possible to be beautiful without showing off their assets

I need YOUR help to make this happen! I want to see your modest styles! Submit a photo with an explanation of why dressing modest is important to you & you could be one of the first girls featured on Be His Girl's Modestly Me!
You have three ways to submit a photo:

Not Just a Ring.

"Baby, you need to put that ring on the other hand."
"Are you engaged?"

So many comments. So many stares. So many questions about the ring. I'm not engaged or married, but I'm committed.
I've always dreamed about one day having a ring. One that sparkled, but yet represented something worth more than diamonds. At the age of 16, I received a ring after a series of the most impure moments of my life; a purity ring. Young & naive, I allowed myself to get into things that were not for me. I did silly things out of "love", but God's grace kept me.

This isn't just a ring to me, but it represents special promises. Promises that I was dedicated to keep. A promise to honor God with my body. A promise to never become one with just anyone. A promise to have respect for the body that He gave me. Three years later, I still remain faithful to those promises. It isn't an easy journey being young, but I am convinced that it will all be worth it.

This world is so centered around of sex. Songs are all about sex. T.V. shows are full of promiscuous stories. Sex is e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e, especially in the college scene, but I refuse to give in. Temptation is all around, but I remember that my relationship with the Savior is more important than any thing on this earth.

If you're still a virgin, keep it up. Don't allow a few sweet, temporary words take your forever! If you're celibate, continue to honor God first! If you're currently engaged in sex, please understand that your body is beautiful & sacred! You are God's treasure, not just any person is worth having a piece. Your worth is priceless.

From my heart to yours.

Hello, beautiful!
Yes, you.
Today, I just want you to know that God loves you.
In His eyes, you are a gem
He formed you in your mother's womb, and from that moment, you were special.
Know that you are here for a reason.
You are not a mistake!
God's plan for your life is so great.
He has everything worked out for your good.
Life can get hard, and sometimes the peer pressure is heavy.
Just know this...
You don't have to be like everyone else.
You were not made to be like everyone else.
There's a reason why God gave your own special, unique genes.
Don't allow anyone to tell you that you aren't beautiful.
Don't allow anyone to call you out of your name.
You are not a "bad chick".
You are not a female dog.
You are not a whore.
You are a Daughter of the King!
Your value is worth more than rubies.
Don't settle or tolerate just anything or anyone.
You deserve nothing but God's best.
Know that you are beautiful just the way you are.
Your body is beautiful and sacred.
Not every guy deserves the key to your treasure.
You are worth waiting for.
You are beautiful.
You are brilliant.
Christ adores you.
Embrace you for you

Dress Classy.

Short shorts. Tight leggings. Low cut shirts. Belly showing. Push up bra. Cut out dresses. Body all exposed & she wonders why people stare the way they do. She wonders why guys only want sex from her.

Girls, I'm not here to bash, but I'm here to help. Here to help you realize that you are worth more than what you present yourself as. They way you dress says a lot about who you are. They way you dress can let someone know if you are confident or insecure. The way you dress is how you want people to perceive you.

Your body is God's holy temple. Therefore, you should not be exposing your body to any & everybody! Don't you know that you were bought at a price, meaning that you are special. If your "friends" can't accept you with clothes that cover your body, then they aren't your friends. If a guy can't like you with clothes on, then he is definitely not worth your time.

So, let's do a #wardrobecheck. What kind of clothes are you wearing? Does your clothes show a lot of skin? Does the way you dress scream classy & confident, or insecure?

Yes, people around you wear tight & revealing clothes, but you don't have to. Yes, it may seem like the most popular girls are the ones that expose their bodies, but if that's what it takes to be popular, why do you want to be popular? You have to learn how to respect yourself & understand that your body is God's temple. Nobody deserves to see your goodies, but your husband. So, be classy ladies & cover up.

"Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God." (1 Peter 3:3-4)

Let's Talk Sex.

"There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one."(1 Corinthians 6:16)

Sex: a word that has become something like a curse word to many Christians. No one likes to talk about sex because they feel that if you talk about, then people are going to want to do. Well, no one talks about it & many teenagers are having it. So, I say LET'S TALK ABOUT IT!
Our society promotes sex like crazy! You see it on television, in movies, on the Internet, in books, and you hear about it in music. The way sex is presented to us through the media, it seems as though sex is just to have fun. Sex has no meaning anymore. Sex now is just between any two individuals that just want to have fun. That's not what God created sex for! God created sex for a man & a woman that is MARRIED! God created sex was for procreation. You remember Adam & Eve, right? Well, in Genesis 1:28 He told them "to be fruitful & multiply". God basically told them to have sex to have children. Sex is not for two young teenagers, or unmarried adults, to do because they feel that they love each other or they just want to have fun. No, that's not it!
I know many young people, especially girls, that have sex because they feel that they are "in love". Boys will tell girls that if you're in love with them, then you must have sex to prove it. Don't believe the lies, ladies! If he really loves you then he wouldn't be worried about having sex with you! True love is patient (1 Corinthians 13:4). Plus, you're young! There are more things to life than having sex with someone that won't even be your husband. Sex is a physical & spiritual connection between two people. Once you're connected to that person, they are there forever.
Don't think that pre-marital sex doesn't have consequences because it does. I can name a few for you, such as a baby (or babies!), diseases, loneliness, depression, low self-esteem, etc. Be smart & just do it God's way. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with being a virgin & waiting until you're married! I'll be 19 in two months & I'm a PROUD virgin! Understand that your body is God's holy temple. Your body is like a treasure chest full of diamonds, gold & rubies. Don't let just anyone have the key & take your treasure because by the time your king comes, your treasure won't have much worth.

Something I Had to Say......

She feels heavy pressure every time she looks in the mirror. She feels that she's not pretty enough, so she puts on more make-up than she does clothes. She feels that she's "fat", so she goes on the diet which requires no eating. She wants to be in love like everyone else around her, so she hooks up with just any guy. She gives him sex & h*** because that's what the kids do when they're in love, right? Now, she has all the bragging rights & can tell all of her "friends" what she has done, but when she gets home its a different story.
No one knows how broken she is inside. Nobody knows how bad she is hurting because that same guy she just had sex with is cheating on her with another girl. No one knows that she is suicidal because every time she gets on Instagram or Facebook, some idiot calls her ugly & a slut. What are we doing? WHAT ARE WE DOING!?
Girls are on their last string trying to fit in & nobody is reaching out to say positive things or expose us to more positive things! All people do is judge, judge, JUDGE to the point that no girl wants to speak up! I remember when that was me, doing things with my "boyfriend"  because I wanted to be just like everyone else. I was hurting! Hurting so much to the point where I wanted out because I felt like God didn't love me & if I told my parents, they would judge me & be disappointed in me....I wanted to die....
I write all this to let you girls know that you are beautiful no matter what "they" say! & who are "they" to tell you who you are when they didn't make you! God created you in His very own image, so BAM! It's time out for all of this trying to fit in stuff and you know you're not satisfied! The only way you're gonna find real love & be content with yourself is when you find out who you are in GOD!! He's the only way you're gonna make it through this life. You are beautiful. You are smart. You are intelligent. You are special because there is only ONE you in this world. You don't have to idolize Beyonce or Rihanna because that's not who you are!!! Be yourself & seek God for confidence! You're not a bad b****, you're a child of GOD!! God hears your cry & He wants to help you, so allow Him! Hear me out...

I may be young, but God is using me to help you. I'm here for prayers and if you need someone to talk to.

14 Day Food Cleanse!

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week so far! I just wanted to come to share something that I have been doing. On Monday, I started a 14 day cleanse. Pretty much I am going to be a vegetarian for two weeks. Now, I know you want to stop reading right now, but WAIT! Keep reading, please!
The Bible says that your body is God's Holy temple(Read 1 Cor. 6:19-20), so we must take care of our bodies! I know that McDonald's & other junk foods are cheaper, but they are slowly killing us! I wanted to have a better eating lifestyle, so for the next two weeks, I will be eating/drinking:
*No meat
*Whole grains
*Veggies
*Fruits
*Water
Now, this is what I chose to do! You can alter it, but let's try to take care of our temples. If you feel like you can't go without meat, choose grilled meats or baked meats instead. This picture to the right is just a few things that I have been eating: veggie burgers, salads, fresh veggies & fruit, pure almond milk, Special K cereal, which is a wheat cereal(my faveeee!!), & all natural peanut butter and jam sandwiches.
It's not bad at all! This is probably one of the best decisions I've made. So, I challenge you to do the same or something similar! I'll let you all know how I'm doing next Wednesday & on day 14! Take care! Love you all♥
